The Circular Contract™ by Close the Loop

The Circular Contract is essential for soft plastic recycling effectiveness.

Soft plastic waste is often called the “Mongrel Mix”, complex, contaminated, and difficult to process. Traditional recycling systems struggle to manage this stream, and without strong end markets, progress can easily stall.

The Circular Contract™ changes that. By setting clear guidelines, shared commitments, and structured coordination across the supply chain, it ensures soft plastics are collected, processed, and transformed into valuable, reusable materials like TonerPlas® and rFlex®. It’s more than a recycling program, it’s a closed-loop commitment that builds demand, strengthens markets, and makes soft plastic recycling truly effective.

How the Circular Contract™ Works

When a party wants to have their soft plastic recycled, they agree to adhere to the structured guidelines outlined in our contract. These guidelines are crafted to ensure a seamless and effective recycling process.

Education & Training

Close the Loop provides comprehensive training to supply chain partners about permissible plastic types. For instance, certain items like PVC pool toys are explicitly restricted.

Baling to Specification

Soft plastic is baled according to Close the Loop specifications, adhering to predefined standards for size, type of strapping, and other essential criteria.

Coordinated Freight Management

Close the Loop takes charge of coordinating freight logistics, eliminating uncertainties and ensuring no unknown arrivals. This streamlined approach enhances efficiency throughout the transportation process.

Service Commitment

Companies using Close the Loop services will commit to the service terms outlined in support of the recycling process.

Equivalent Product Buy-Back

A crucial aspect of the Circular Contract involves the buy back of an equivalent amount of recyled product, such as our TonerPlas® or rFlex®.

Why It Matters

The Circular Contract™ provides the missing link the soft plastics industry has been waiting for, a system that brings structure, collaboration, and accountability to every step of the process.

By connecting education, collection, processing, logistics, and product demand, the Circular Contract™ turns soft plastic recycling into a fully circular model, one that:

  • Gives waste a valuable second life
  • Supports sustainable manufacturing and infrastructure
  • Strengthens local supply chains
  • Creates measurable environmental impact

It’s a smarter way forward, practical, scalable, and built on responsibility.
