Show your support for National Recycling Week

As Australia continues to deal with the ramifications of China refusing to accept our waste plastic, this National Recycling Week (12-18 November) offers an opportunity for us to support our local recycling industry. It will also assist in diverting 300,000 tonnes of soft plastic from landfill every year.

At Close the Loop our promise of zero waste to landfill is at the heart of everything we do. For 17 years we have been at the forefront of building Australia’s circular economy, using recycled materials to not just create new, but better products.

In partnership with PlanetArk we have operated the world’s most successful volunteer product stewardship program in ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’. And this year we created TonerPlas – an asphalt additive that contains the equivalent of 530,000 recycled plastic bags and toner from more than 12,000 recycled cartridges in every 1km stretch of two-lane road. TonerPlas doesn’t just divert waste plastic from landfill, it creates a better-quality road and has a 65 percent increase in fatigue life meaning longer lasting roads than traditional asphalt. In conjunction with Downer, roads with the TonerPlas additive have already been laid in Melbourne and Sydney.

To turn your waste into a superior road, drop your soft plastics off at any RedCycle collection point while used printer cartridges can be returned at over 4,000 public collection points and over 40,000 workplaces throughout Australia. Become a circular economy champion by returning your full bags back to us.

You can also get involved in a number of activities this National Recycling Week, including:
Host a Swap Party – Get your friends together to swap books, clothes and more.
Buy It Back Day – A day for the community to celebrate National Recycling Week by purchasing something second hand or buying a product made from recycled materials.
Learn about recycling: Find out what you can and can’t recycle in your kerbside bin.
