Variety – the children’s charity, raises much needed funds and awareness for sick, disadvantaged and disabled kids. Variety works with individual families and organisations to deliver programs to help children in need.
The Variety Bash is Australia’s largest (and favourite!) motoring event with participants travelling through the heart of Australia to areas that they would otherwise not see, and at the same time raising money for children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
This year Malcolm Davidson representing Close the Loop, in partnership with Andrew MacKenzie, Darren Howe and Harley Tierney of PF Metals, will be on the road for the next 10 days travelling from Melbourne all the way to Darwin! Read on to hear from Malcolm as he gets ready for his adventure and check the map below for their route!
Today I depart on the Variety Bash (Vic) 2016 from Melbourne to Darwin in car #67 a 1967 HR Holden.
I have always wanted to drive across Australia to really appreciate the size of this huge country. I do not think one can understand and appreciate how big it is looking at a map or flying over it. I have never been up the middle or to Darwin but love travelling and seeing new places.
So when Andrew MacKenzie from PF Metals said a few weeks ago they had just managed to finish building their car and there was a spare seat available I instantly said that is for me and count me in.
The Variety Club has for over 25 years raised money to help Kids in need so what a great reason to get moving, raise money and have a good time which is what I will be aiming to do. So I have been madly trying to get people to sponsor and the team has raised just over $10,000 so far which is great considering the short time we had to do it.
So, I am looking forward to a nice relaxing drive (a long one at that) meeting a lot of new friends who all have the same passion to make a difference by helping kids and have a great time. This has to be what life is all about.
